At eighteen, Wild Bill has participated in Dirt Kart and Micro Midget Racing for 9 years.  He is a very competitive driver with many trophy dash and over 40 main event wins under his belt throughout Northern California.

2007 Billy moved into a 360 wingless spec sprint car.  With only one practice day under his belt, Billy excited the stands by setting second fast time and qualifying for the trophy dash.  As a rookie, Billy was required to start the first 4 races in the back.   From the back,  Billy finished 4th, 6th and two 5ths in his first 4 races.  Every week he build up his fans as he would consistently come from the back, clean, exciting passes on his way to the front.   During the season, Billy also had a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finish.   He was also leading two additional races when mechanical failures ended his night.  He raced a full season at Antioch Speedway, finishing 5th overall and is the 2007 Rookie of the Year. 


In 2008, Billy dominated at 4 Northern California race tracks.  He competed in 24 race events, with 19 top 5 finishes, 10 of them Main Event wins at 4 different tracks.  Billy finished 2nd, 2 points away from the series championship at Antioch Speedway.  He set 2nd fast time and finished 3rd in the “Run what you Brung” race at Petaluma as the only carbureted engine in the top 10 finishers racing against 360 injected engines.  The chart is a summary of Billy’s 2008 season, with individual race finished at the end of resume.

As a drug-free student-athlete, Billy continuously to strives for academic excellence by maintaining his place on the honor role at Benicia High School graduating with a 3.5 GPA.  Billy, as two sport varsity athlete (football and baseball) was named all-league linebacker as a junior and senior for the BHS Varsity Football team.  Billy’s coaches and teammates have recognized his leadership skills by naming him the captain of BHS football team.  Billy has been accepted at California State University, California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, CA  as a mechanical engineering major.  His goal is to become a mechanical engineer as a means to gain better understanding of the racing and racing car dynamics, with plans to be able to work in the racing field.

Where It All Began....


Billy Aton’s racing skills are a direct result of 5 years of BMX racing.  Billy started racing bikes at age 5.  Billy racing skills and vision launched him into the national spotlight at age six when he finished 6 in the Grand Nationals in Oklahoma City, OK,  and finishing the year ranked 9th in the nation for 6 year olds.  Billy’s ability to ride through traffic, select good racing lines and 7 main event wins brought him to the attention of the #2 ranked Bike Shop Team in the Nation, Challenge Racing.  Billy was picked up by Challenge Racing for the 1997 race season. His 34 Top 4 finishes, 13 additional wins were key factors in the teams 1997, 1998, and 1999 First Place World Cup Finishes.  Challenge Racing placed in the top 3 at the grand nationals 3 years in a row including a 1998 win.  Billy continually improved his national ranking completing 1997 ranked 7th, 1998 ranked 5th and 1999 ranked 4th in the nation for 9 year olds.  While at the top of his BMX racing career, at 9 years old, Billy retired to pursue his first racing passion, kart racing.  

Billy began racing karts in July 1999, and from his first heat race was being notices by driver and their parents.   After competing in the eight race season at the newly opened Vallejo Speedway II.   Billy had qualified for 8 trophy dashes and won 4, setting fast time at 4 races.  His years racing BMX has given him the ability to compete with calculated precision, seeing opportunities and openings then executing.  His racing perception has earned him the nickname Mr. Excitement.  Billy started off the 2000 season with a bang, winning the A Main at the New Year’s Day race in Chico, CA.,  and he finished  third overall in points at Vallejo Speedway 2.

Wild Bill Aton, at seventeen, has participated in 360 Sprint car, Dirt Kart and Micro Midget Racing for 7 years.  He is a very competitive driver with many heat race, trophy dash and over 30 main event wins under his belt throughout Northern California.  In 2001 Billy moved to 125cc Outlaw Karts.  At 11 he was a top competitor with 5 main event wins and many top three finishes.  Billy lead the season’s points race until mechanical problems at the end of the season caused him to finish second behind a 16 year old competitor.  

In the 2002 race season Billy exceeded all expectation by racing 3 separate classes.   At age 12, Billy finished the 2002 year by finishing in the top 5 of the 500 Intermediate cc Outlaw Kart class; showing poise and maturity as the youngest driver in the 600cc Micro Midget class, winning 2 trophy dashes and end of year 2 race money series; winning the 2002 125cc Outlaw Kart championship; and being named ‘Driver of the Year’ for his 2002 accomplishments. 

Billy’s stepped up in the 2003 race season by moving into the open 500 Outlaw class and running the full 600 micro midget season.  Billy 2003 finished 3rd place over all finish in the 600 Midget class.   Billy, at 13, proved dominant a class where the average age of the drivers is 28.  

Billy was the 2004 CORA Speedway Inaugural Race Champion in 600 Micro Midgets.

Billy’s 2005 accomplishments include 8 top 3 finishes including 4 wins between Delta Speedway in Stockton and CORA Speedway in Dixon.

In 2006, Billy battled hard all year to finish 2nd in the 600 Multi class at Delta Speedway.  During the 19 race season, Billy had 11 top 4 finishes.  Billy was named Most Improved Racer, and Most Dedicated Racer for 2006. 

In 2007, at 17, Billy made the jump from the 600 micro midgets to a 360 wingless Sprint car.  With only one practice day under his belt, Billy excited the stands by setting second fast time and qualifying for the trophy dash.  As a rookie, Billy was required to start the first 4 races in the back.   From the back, Billy finished 4th, 6th and two 5ths in his first 4 races.  Every week he build up his fans as he would consistently come from the back, clean, exciting passes on his way to the front.   He was also leading two additional races when mechanical failures ended his night.  Billy finished the 15 race season with 11 top ten, 6 top five finishes, 1 main event and 1 trophy dash win.  Billy finished the season In 5th place overall point standings and won the Rookie of the Year award for wingless sprints. 

Billy’s proven track record and the respect of fellow racers has allowed him the opportunity to continually be one of the youngest racers to compete every race class he has participated in,  with impressive finishes at Antioch Speedway’s 1/4 mile oval, Sacramento Raceway, Stockton’s Delta Speedway, Dixon’s CORA Speedway and Vallejo Speedway II.  Billy continues to excel at each new level of competition.
 
Billy has gained respect from parents and drivers alike with his racing vision, quick reflexes and driving capabilities.  Billy is well liked on and off the track for his quick smile and friendly, fun loving nature.  Billy’s demeanor, impish smile and winning ways make him a crowd favorite, eliciting cheers and praise from the racing community.
